Beirut Wins First Round of Global Startup Battle

The votes are in and the first round winner of the Global Startup Battle is mimix from YallaStartup Weekend Beirut in Lebanon.
Mimix is a technology that translates spoken and written words into sign language. In its first demo version, mimix is a desktop application that translates English into international sign language, with a plan to make it a portable application that can translate other languages into different sign languages and dialects.
Team mimix, formed on Friday, November 12, is comprised of Jessica Abou Haydar, Pierre Daher, Pascale Baaklini, Mahmoud Darawsheh, Akram Barakat. They beat out winners from 13 other cities around the world, including Stats Squared from Startup Weekend Indianapolis which took second place, and endcap from Startup Weekend Tulsa, which finished in third.
