Global Entrepreneurship Week attended Germany’s NewCome Fair 2009 – the trade fair and congress for entrepreneurs, young companies, business, franchisers and freelancers. It took place on 27 and 28 March at the New Trade Fair Centre in Stuttgart and was attended by 5,000 people interested in entrepreneurship. Professor Peter Schäfer, Head of the Initiative for Start-ups and Business Transfar (ifex) of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs said, “There are many institutions here at the NewCome which communicate important knowledge. During this fair all specialists work closely together and offer a unique program with useful information to the visitors.” The 10th anniversary of this Fair seemed like the perfect opportunity to mark the kick-off for Germany’s participation in Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009.
The colourful design of Global Entrepreneurship Week instantly attracted many fairgoers who then took an active interest in the Week and the opportunity to participate in a global event. The initiative which is funded in Germany by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs and the European Social Funds did not only achieve unanimous approval by the fairgoers but was also embraced by the co-exhibitors. During the two fair days the team of three managed to get in touch with about 60% of all NewCome exhibitors personally and made great new contacts for Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009. The team recruited about 150 new partners who are now organising their calendars in order to participate in the Week by planning an event that fits into the Week!
The University of Stuttgart, which has been actively involved in the strengthening of entrepreneurship amongst student for many years, registered as one of the first partners and acted as a passionate advocate for the Global Entrepreneurship Week at the Fair. For the next few months it will be up to the hosts and partners to keep the excitement for the Global Entrepreneurship Week - sparked afresh at the NewCome 2009 - alive and to spread it like wildfire across Germany!
