Princess Maxima, Dutch Minister Promote ‘Growing SMEs’ During GEW

Princess Máxima and Lilianne Ploumen, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) during the Growing SMEs Conference at The Hague last week.
Minister Ploumen expressed how excited she was to be a part of the event, "Here 'trade' and 'aid' together. Investors, entrepreneurs, governments, coaches and managers. A world of development opportunities, the Netherlands and beyond."
GEW’s Jonathan Ortmans was also among the list of speakers at the Growing SMEs Conference, a featured event of Global Entrepreneurship Week, addressing more than 400 participants at the opening of the Marketplace where entrepreneurs of innovative sustainable companies presented to potential investors.
Princess Máxima spoke to Janine Chiong from the Philippines whose shoe company, Habi Footwear, employs mothers from a poor community in Quezon City. Minister Ploumen also met many entrepreneurs, including app developers from the Palestinian Gaza Strip and a waste processor from Liberia.
