StartupBus Africa began its trip through the southern part of the continent yesterday where its ultimate destination for the day would be the Zimbabwe capital of Harare. The bus continues its journey during GEW by travel through Johannesburg, South Africa finally arriving in Cape Town on November 21.
StartupBus is an annual entrepreneurial road trip, during which the 'buspreneurs' conceive, build, and launch their startup. 30 participants on the bus, which will be made of a mix of the engineering, design and business communities, formed teams to exchange ideas, build products, approach costumers, and create a business outline. When the teams aren’t on the bus, they have opportunities to meet with African entrepreneurs at each destination.
Africa was chosen for the StartupBus project due to the growing mobile communications industry. In Africa, there were 500 million mobile connections in 2013 alone, with a projected increase by an additional 50% until 2018.
